Business Opportunities And Ideas

World’s Best Presentations

on May 8th, 2007

I read on Guy Kawasaki’s blog that the World’s Best Presentation Contest has announced the winners the first place going to the excellent Shift Happens.

Whatever your business opportunity or business idea sooner or later you’ll have to give a presentation be that to raise finance or to secure a sale, and good presentation skills could be the difference between success and failure. Yet it never ceases to amaze me how few people practice presentations, not to mention the fact that most people seem to believe that they should attempt to get at least 90% of the features of powerpoint into their presentations. You don’t!

What makes a good powerpoint presentation is big fonts (hence less writing), big graphics, and a “story telling” orientation. Just take a look at the winners and I’m sure you’ll agree they’re better than most presentations you’ve seen.

Don’t forget however that good slides will never make up for poor delivery, but not to worry there are some excellent organisations like Toastmasters that will help you practice your presentation skills. I’m certainly a better public speaker for having been a member and it was damn good fun too.
