Lets face it we all loved playing on bouncy castles as kids and kids today get as much pleasure from them as we did so they can be a star attraction at a party or local event.
Typical hire rates are in the region of £60 per day and £100 per weekend.
The downside is of course that the majority of the work is likely to be on weekends (although this might allow you to start part time alongside your current job), outside hire is weather and season dependant and you will need space to dry, store and repair the castles. Insurance is likely to be a major cost.
To get started you’ll need to invest in at least one castle, and blowers to inflate the castle, plus a vehicle to transport them in. As always you should budget for advertising and marketing. You should allow around £5000 for new equipment though there are some existing businesses and their equipment being sold on ebay for less.
If this is the business idea for you then make sure you have a point of differentiation for your business, one obvious one for the bouncy castle business is to guarantee sunshine (obviously you can’t change the weather but you can offer a full refund in the event that it rains on the day) you will no doubt lose some money on such days however it will allow you to charge more and will help build a good reputation quickly - plus they’re likely to book you for the next event knowing you’ve taken the risk of the weather away from them.

This blog is about business opportunities and ideas that I spot, think of or hear about and think are useful and interesting. It is intended to provide ideas and inspriation for you to help you find the right business idea for you to then grow it into a successful business.
