ProBlogger: Secrets for blogging your way to a six-figure income is written by prominent bloggers Darren Rowse (ProBlogger) and Chris Garrett (ChrisG.com). It is aimed at beginning bloggers and as such it explains what a blog is, how a blog differs from a normal website and the benefits of blogging (asides from making money blogging).

The introduction describes how Rowse and Garrett came to be professional bloggers and the several years of hard work that went into building their blogs to the point that they could become ProBloggers.

The remainder of the book is organised into ten chapters:

  1. Blogging for Money - which explains what a blog is, introduces ways to make money from a blog and explains how to assess the success of a blog.
  2. Niche Blogging - which explains the importance of a niche, how to choose a niche and how to determine the viability of the niche.
  3. Setting Up Your Blog - introduces the different possible blogging platforms, suggests a hosted WordPress blog is the best and explains how to go about setting it up.
  4. Blog Writing - which guides you through the process of creating good valuable content for your blog. This is the best and most useful chapter full of excellent material and the subsections are excellent examples of what makes a good blog post (and they probably were).
  5. Blog Income and Earning Strategies - takes you through the process of making money from your blog, explain when to advertise, how to advertise, types of advertising, how to find advertisers, affiliate marketing, donations, merchandise, subscriptions, freelance writing and consulting.
  6. Buying and Selling Blogs - explains how to buy and sell blogs, along with an explanation of why you would want to.
  7. Blog Networks - talks about the pros and cons of joining a blog network, explains the process and briefly comments on the idea of starting your own blog network.
  8. Blog Promotion and Marketing - it doesn’t matter how good your blog is, if you don’t promote it you’ll never make money from it. This chapter introduces you to the commonly used ways to promote a blog and build your readership.
  9. Secrets of Successful Blogs - looks at some of the most popular blogs and notes what they all have in common.
  10. Creating Something Worthwhile - reminds you to create something of value.

If you are new to blogging you’ll learn about the essential steps involved in building a successful blogging business. While it’s not detailed enough to get a complete novice up and running, anyone that is reasonably Internet savvy you should be fine. So if you think blogging could be the business opportunity for you - buy it!

On the other hand if you’re an experienced blogger you probably already know everything in this book, but you might still find it is a useful desktop reference for the sections 20 types of blog posts and 10 steps to writing a successful series on your blog.

You can buy it from Amazon UK or Amazon USA.
