Kiddie Forts

on April 18th, 2008

We get some funny looks from some of the visitors to our house. They are surprised to find our living room floor covered with taped up old cardboard boxes. The boxes are great, our son enjoys playing in and around them, pulling himself up on them and his dad (that’s me) really enjoys building a fort with them!

Given the fun he currently gets out of the boxes, I’ve no doubt that when he’s a little older he’ll love his fort. If not then I’ll be playing alone. I’m obviously not alone in my fort building activities as Thingamababy has a great post on a very intricate cardboard fort (with lighting!) built for a kids birthday party. I actually quite jealous and will be making a concerted effort to find more cardboard boxes ASAP!

That however is the challenge, finding good, big cardboard boxes (without having to buy a new fridge) - which makes me think there might be a business idea here - making flat packed cardboard boxes that build up into components of a fort. Think of it as a flat pack, full size version of Lego with each brick/component designed to be part of a fort’s wall, gate, tower or turret. There’s probably scope for addons too - child safe lanterns, a sheet portcullis a play mat with a moat and fort design drawn on it…

So come on who else has built their kids a cardboard fort?

O.K. I admit it I too am Guilty!!

It took weeks for my son to evict me so he could explore it himself. It was a great way to keep his plastic stuff in one place and away from accidental midnight lacerations to bare feet.

    Lindsay,

I’m not at all surprised to find you are a fellow fort builder! :-)
