Just Do It!

on March 11th, 2008

nikeNike have been using “Just Do It” since 1988 when it was apparently coined at a meeting between Nike’s ad agency of the time Wieden and Kennedy and a group of Nike employees. Since then Nike have grown to become one of the worlds most successful brands and “Just Do It” one of the most recognised tag lines ever.

It’s also one of the best bits of advice you can give any budding entrepreneur and you don’t just have to take my word for it, Richard Branson’s even used it as the title for a chapter in his book Screw It, Let’s Do It.

Next time you here a co-worker moan about the boss, claiming they could run the business much better or that they’re going to quit and start their own business tell them to “Just Do It”. It might just be the push they’ve been looking for and if not, they’re going to have to stop moaning to you.

Next time you hear a want-to-be entrepreneur bang on about their new business idea, tell them to “Just Do It”. Sure there’s a time and a place for planning, but nothing will really prove if a business is viable until you do it.

Next time you, your business partner or your staff are moaning about a difficult or unpleasant piece of work and putting it off, remember to “Just Do It”. After all the sooner you start the sooner it’ll be done and you can get back to doing something more fun, productive or profitable. On that basis I should probably get a sticker made for my monitor that says “Just Do It!”.
