Starting A Business - Fifty Lessons

Starting A Business: Straight Talk From The World’s Top Business Leaders is a short book consisting of fourteen short lessons based on the experiences of some of the worlds best known business leaders and entrepreneurs. Each lesson has a theme, for example “Overcoming Obstacles” and ends with a “takeaways” section; a set of bullet points summing up the key points of the lesson.

The book is part of the Lessons Learned series by Harvard Business Press and Fifty Lessons. Each book draws on the library of video interviews that Fifty Lessons has collected, which means the lessons are based on the experience those entrepreneurs gained starting their own successful businesses.

There are some great lessons, including these that I wish more entrepreneurs would take note of:

  • Be Clear What The Aim Is,
  • Prove Your Concept Before Expanding,
  • Do What You Love.

It’s an enjoyable, quick and easy read and budding entrepreneurs will gain some valuable lessons from reading it and giving some thought to the lessons. I look forward to reading some of the other books in the series, in particular Leading By Example and Managing Change.

You can buy it from Amazon UK or Amazon USA.
