He urges you to ask “why not” and to consider doing the things that are “just not done” in your industry. Traditionally marketers have relied on the Four Ps (product, price, promotion and place) now Godin would have you add a fifth - Purple.

So what is a purple cow? Imagine a field full of cows, now imagine there’s a single purple cow in there - that’s remarkable, that’s a purple cow! This book is about why your business should be a purple cow and how to go about become one.

So who is Seth Godin? Well according to his website he:

• writes the most popular marketing blog in the world;
• is the author of the bestselling marketing books of the last decade;
• speaks to large groups on marketing, new media and what’s next;
• and is the founder of Squidoo.com, a fast-growing recommendation website.

Well I can’t verify if he really is the author of the best selling marketing books of the last decade, but he’s certainly got to be near the top of the top ten. While his blog on marketing IS one of the the most popular business blogs, coming third on my list of the top 100 business blogs.

Purple Cow is a short (144 pages) book that’s easy to read - I read it within 24 hours; but just like The Dip it’s short because it focus on it’s one core message and really gets the point across. I defy you to read it and not feel inspired to become a purple cow!
