Cleaning wheelie bins is one of those business opportunities that had it was presented on Dargons’ Den I’d have expected the Dragons to mock. I’d also have written it off as a business idea that is unlikely to succeed, after all who is going to pay up to £5 per fortnight (£125 per year) to have their wheelie bin cleaned? I certainly wouldn’t.
Yes I can see a need for wheelie bins to be cleaned, yes I do clean my bin, but not once a week and it’s not that unsavoury that I feel the need to pay someone else to do it.
It turns out I’m wrong. After just one flyer through the door, the local wheelie bin cleaning company now has around 40% of our street as customers.
So what do you need to start out? Well a wheelie bin washing system mounted in the back of a suitable van and a few thousand flyers seems to do the trick. If you don’t want to start from scratch however, you can even buy a wheelie bin cleaning franchise.
One franchise company reckons you can generate a profit of around £60K on a turnover of just under £100K. It’s still not a business opportunity that appeals to me however!
