It amazes me how badly prepared so many of the businesses that pitch on Dragon’s Den seem to be. I appreciate that the BBC probably edits the programme to make it better viewing but really to be taken seriously you ought to know some basic facts about your business.
Everytime I watch an episode it occurs to me that there must be a good business opportunity out there for a business to provide training in pitching for investment. Not only would it help those entering the Dragon’s Den, but the thousands of other businesses out there that are trying to raise investment from their bank, friends and family, angel investors or venture capital. Perhaps it’s something I should offer to complement my business plans service.
In the meantime please if you’re looking for investment get some practice doing presentations if you don’t have the money to pay for professional training then at least get along to your local Toastmasters club. Then make sure you can present a brief synopsis of your business plan along with some simple facts about your company including the legal structure of the company, the percentage ownership and your past performance (last three years if you’ve been around that long) and planned performance.

This blog is about business opportunities and ideas that I spot, think of or hear about and think are useful and interesting. It is intended to provide ideas and inspriation for you to help you find the right business idea for you to then grow it into a successful business.
