Yesterday I recieved an email about the “Inspirational Business Mum of the Year” Award which contained some interesting facts from their research including this one:
40 per cent of ’Mum Magnates’ get the idea to start their own business whilst pregnant, or within a year of their baby being born
Which doesn’t surprise me, since becoming a Dad I’ve come across no end of business opportunities and had numerous ideas for products or services that parents could use. Here’s some of the ideas I’ve blogged about so far:

Plus a couple of Business Mums wrote an amusing guest post about their business titled 5 Kids, 4 Fish, 3 Dogs, 2 Budgies and 1 Business which describes their Family Grapevine business which was inspired by their children.
What did surprise me however was the fact that their research showed that:
The internet is playing a key role for mums to start their businesses as nearly a third (30%) of businesses formed by mums are wholly internet-based.
Not bad considering the government keeps telling us that not enough women show an interest in IT.

Isn’t it amazing how new problems and opportunities are revealed when we are placed outside of our comfort zone and suddenly need information and/or practical help.
As with all business ideas, it is so important to move forward with them but I guess that can be difficult if you are existing on 2 hours sleep per day.
