I doubt any significant endeavour has ever been accomplished by mankind without someone somewhere having first written down the goal. For example consider putting the US efforts to put a man on the moon. The idea wasn’t new but despite the Russian lead in the space race at the time it was the USA that achieved it after John F. Kennedy put the goal in writing (and all over the world’s press):
This nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to Earth.
The USA achieved that goal just eight years later which demonstrates the benefits of having goals.
I believe that taking the time to write down your goals and review them regularly is time well spent. The mere process of writing and reviewing your goals makes it more likely that you will achieve them!
Here are four reasons why writing your goals down increases the changes of you achieving them:
- A written goal keeps you focused on what you want to achieve.
- Your focus will improve your decision-making allowing you make the right decisions to stay on track.
- By focusing on the goals, you become much more aware of opportunities to achieve them.
- Writing your goals down will help you utilise your unconscious mind.
So what are your goals for your business? Have you written them down yet?
