Reader’s question:
Why would cleaners get their employment through my cleaning company rather than advertise themselves directly do you think? I’m thinking of companies like Molly Maid etc.
The simplest and most common reason is that not everyone wants to run their own business, some just don’t have the knowledge and skills, others just don’t want the hassle involved, they simply want to do the job that they know and get paid for it. For these people letting someone else organise the sales, marketing scheduling and invoicing of clients is an attractive proposition. Many also perceive that they are taking less risk by being employed (or even self employed) by a bigger company than if they chose to “go it alone”.
Clients will often prefer to deal with an agency rather than an individual as they will expect a higher level of service, from staff who have been vetted (i.e. with the Police). They will also know that if the cleaner is ill/on holiday an agency will normally be able to provide an alternate member of staff. Some clients will also prefer to know that they have a company to “fire” rather than a person, should they be dissatisfied or no longer require the service.
