I recently commented on claims that Apple will struggle to shift 10 million iPhone’s by the end of 2008. I’m feeling even more confident that they’ll make make the 10 million mark as analysts have estimated that up to 200,000 were sold in the first day. UPDATE: I’ve been told that Piper Jaffrey is reporting over 500,000 units sold over the weekend, although I can’t find a reference at the moment.
The telegraph seems to have found in Niek Van Veen, an analyst at Forrester Research someone that is au fait with the mobile phone market and he says:
“It is a challenging sales target, but it is certainly do-able.”
Putting Apple’s target into perspective, it’s 1% of the global market and Nokia, the world’s leading mobile phone manufacturer, apparently sells approximately 80 million phones per quarter.
Does any other business in this sector ever create buzz as well as Apple and Steve Jobs?
