Starting A Children’s Nursery

on June 21st, 2007

It’s hardly a new business idea, but nurseries are still in demand and done right can be a solid reliable way to build a successful business. Just consider the example of Duncan Bannatyne, who’s done quite well, in part, from building up a chain of successful nurseries called Just Learning which he sold for £22 million.

Having spoken to a number of local parents it seems there is still a shortage of places in children’s nurseries. The shortage of places, combined with the well proven business model should make it an attractive proposition for any budding entrepreneur. The downside is of course that you’ll need significant startup capital and will face a considerable amount of red tape - my post on becoming a child minder will probably give you an idea of the bureaucratic effort involved.

I suspect many would be entrepreneurs are put off by the idea as they can not envisage themselves working in the nursery, which is actually a good thing as it would force them to work on their business rather than in it.

This post is part of my child friendly business ideas week.

There is certainly a big demand for our local nursery. A friend recently told us to put our baby’s name down as soon as he or she is born in order to be in with a chance of getting a place in a few year’s time.
