Dove’s Ads Banned For Nudity

on June 7th, 2007

doveproageDove has recently started a new ad campaign promoting “real beauty”. The campaign features women aged 50+ wearing nothing (much like the famous calendar girls).

The copy on the ad reads: “Too old to be in an anti-aging ad” and it promotes Dove’s new line of Pro-Age products, which are aimed at women aged 50+.

However the TV ad has been banned in America by the FCC for showing too much skin and there have been complaints about Dove’s use of nudity. The critics claim that “the use of female nudity to sell products under any banner is exploitative of women’s sexuality”.

Personally I think that much like the famous calendar girls it’s tastefully done and Dove deserve some credit for a well thought out campaign. It’s not that long ago that everyone was up in arms about size zero models so it’s nice to see one company using normal looking models.

What do you think?

I think this is one the greatest ad campaigns ever. It’s different when you’re a girl.
