Business Opportunities And Ideas

Stem Cell Harvesting

on May 25th, 2007

As I’ve mentioned before my wife and I are currently attending antenatal classes with the NCT. It’s great, we’re learning a lot about the labour, birth and first few months of bringing up our kid. I’ve also learned about some new businesses (I really can’t go anywhere without spotting a business opportunity).

One of the new business opportunities that I’ve come across at the classes is stem cell harvesting, something I’d never heard of before! Stem cell harvesting is actually the harvesting of stem cells from the umbilical cord and placenta immediately following the birth of the baby. The cells that have been harvested are then screened and frozen to be stored for between 20 to 25 years.

I suspect that this is a business that will require substantial capital investment to get started, but with typical fees in the region of £1,500 it seems there’s a lot of money to be made and apparently I’m not alone in thinking that as Richard Branson has recently launched such a service under the name Virgin Health Bank .
