You Can Sell Anything Online!

on May 9th, 2007

I’ve often told people that given the massive reach of the Internet you could sell anything online. Well a post of Seth Godin’s blog today proved that once again:

Chris points out this article, all about a woman who sells tumbleweed online.

She’s grossing more than $40,000 a year, almost entirely to organic search engine traffic.

So all you need to do is find you niche internet business idea and you could be next.

You certainly can sell anything online - but can you sell enough of it to make it a viable business? USD40,000 is only about £20k.

£20K is still very nice if it’s a part time business or one of a portfolio of businesses though. Or if your cost of living is low enough.

I bet most of it’s profit too as the “raw material” just blows in…

Good point. And if it doesn’t take up too much of youir time then you can focus on 4 or 5 niches and bring in £80-100k.

    All hail the Long Tail!

Does it provide any residual income though? If you lose your places on the search engine, do you still have an income stream?

Sadly no residual income, I’m just amazed there’s a market for tumbleweed!
